MEET THE QUR'AN 30/30 TEAM

Ust. Fatemah Meghji is the main instructor for Qur’an 30/30 which she has been teaching now for seven years! She completed her BA in English Literature and Religious Studies from the University of British Columbia, after which she left to study in the female seminary. She studied at Jamiat al-Zahra and completed the masters program in Qur’anic Tafsir and Qur’anic Sciences with honors. She is currently an instructor at the Mizan Institute, leading the Sisters Department. Moreover, she has been teaching in a professional capacity for several years, previously serving as the Islamic Director at the Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy.
Ust. Maleeha Abdullah will be conducting most of the monthly tutorials for Qur’an 30/30. She is a hafidha of the Qur’an and a mother of two girls. She studied at the Hawza ‘Ilmiyya of London and Qum from 2014 to 2022, studying the Islamic sciences of fiqh, usul, philosophy, and tafsir among others. Her studies culminated in a Master’s degree in Islamic Philosophy from Daneshkade Huda in Qum. In addition to her Islamic education, she is a qualified Mathematics teacher, holding a PGCE and QTS, as well as a Master’s in Character Education from the University of Birmingham. She is an instructor at Mizan Institute and provides consultations on religious and theological matters for sisters.
Sr. Rumina Hashmani will be working with Q30 students and facilitating the monthly discussion groups, as well as leading logistics for the team! Born and raised in London, UK and currently residing in Toronto, Canada, Rumina has a deep passion for Islamic learning and has been actively engaged in religious and community service from a young age. She began as a member of the youth group and went onto serve as a teacher and a mentor at the madressa, and a community volunteer. She has consistently pursued her interest in Islamic studies and has been a student at Hawza Online since February 2022. She has completed two years of the Arabic program and is currently enrolled in the Certificate program. She also works as the Media Coordinator for Al-Kisa Foundation, while also lecturing and holding Qurʾān study sessions in Toronto.
STUDY GROUPS & LIVE TUTORIALS
This year, we are introducing a model of the course in which sisters will have the ability to join study groups to meet with other sisters also studying Qur’an 30/30. Sisters will meet virtually twice per month.
1. Study Groups: Their first meeting will be with a smaller group of approximately 15 sisters where there will be discussions, reflections and an opportunity to hold each other accountable.
2. Tutorials: Additionally, there will be a monthly tutorial (of approximately 50 sisters), with Alimah Maleeha Abdullah or another scholar, where sisters will have the opportunity to ask questions on their readings in a live and interactive setting. We are excited that we will also have some special sessions with Shaykh Amin Rastani featuring Mizan Institute micro-courses including Death & Barzakh as well as Beyond Control!
Attendance Policy: These sessions will be mandatory and attendance will be taken. Sisters will not be permitted to miss more than a total of four live sessions (inclusive of both tutorials and study groups).
These study groups will commence at the end of April 2026. Sisters are expected to complete the first five juz by this time (during Ramadhan etc.) and the study groups and tutorials will commence thereafter.
Joining a study group is crucial in holding yourself accountable and in completing the course. Most sisters are unable to complete the course without joining a study group and this is the course’s most effective model! A guided timeline sheet will be given to study groups so that a one-year track for Qur’an 30/30 can be maintained, meaning that you will complete Qur’an 30/30 by the end of January 2026. You will still watch the videos at your own pace throughout the week, but you will share your reflections and questions with your group, meet twice per month, and have small group assignments to discuss and hand in.
Sisters who consistently attend the sessions, do not exceed their allowed absences, and fully participate in the course and all assignments, and who finish the course by the deadlines presented (the full course by the end of January 2026) will receive a completion certificate at the end of the course. Please note that upon registering, you will be given a selection of timings to choose from to see which study groups and tutorials fit your schedule. Please select the timings that work for your schedule and know that you will be committing to these timings. You must choose one study group, and one tutorial timing that consistently works for you. In April, you will receive communication of your study groups, its schedule (as per your selections) and dates from Sr. Rumina Hashmani.
If you are currently enrolled in the self-paced version of Qur’an 30/30, you can upgrade to the Study Groups Certification track for an additional $50. Please email [email protected] for more information.

DETAILED OVERVIEW & COURSE OUTLINE
Overview: Qur’an 30/30 is a meticulously designed program where each session revolves around an in-depth exploration of a ‘juz’ – a 1/30th division of the Qur’an. With a commitment of roughly 1-2 hours per week, students are guided through an overview of the selected ‘juz’, unraveling its spiritual and intellectual riches. The course is self-paced which means that sisters hold themselves accountable and can work with their own schedules, leading to increased flexibility.
Weekly Readings, Recordings and Flexibility: To make the learning experience accessible and flexible, participants are encouraged to dedicate 30 minutes weekly to reading one ‘juz’ of the Qur’an in English. After reading, students will watch a 1-1.5 hour video summarizing the juz, equaling a total of 2 hours per week. This pace will enable students to complete the course within a span of 30 weeks. Sisters who are enrolled in the study groups track will follow this pace. Alternatively, for those seeking a more relaxed engagement can enroll in the self-paced program, and use a more relaxed pace of 1.5 hour per week can be adopted, leading to completion in 50 weeks. Students enrolled in the self-paced program must hold themselves accountable as there will be no live sessions.
Comprehensive Resources: Each ‘juz’ is accompanied by meticulously crafted ‘juz’ sheets, supplemental notes, and additional resources. These aids enhance the understanding of the text and provide contextual information, enriching the learning experience. A comprehension quiz at the end of each ‘juz’ ensures that participants can assess their grasp of the material and track their progress.
A User-Friendly Online Learning Experience: For the first time ever, Qur’an 30/30 will be using a dedicated learning platform with mobile and computer support called Mighty Networks. This software is incredibly easy to use and user-friendly. Sisters will have the opportunity to interact with sisters from around the globe, and to participate in quizzes etc. Lessons will be unlocked upon completion, and sisters can follow their own pace.
Cultivating a Personal Connection: One of the core aims of Qur’an 30/30 is to empower participants to forge a personal and meaningful relationship with the Qur’an. Through reading the English translation, students are guided toward establishing a bridge to the deeper layers of the text. The course acknowledges that navigating the Qur’an individually can be daunting; thus, the guided approach serves as a beacon, illuminating the path to understanding and appreciating its brilliance.
Inclusivity and Depth: Qur’an 30/30 caters to individuals at all levels of familiarity with the Qur’an. Whether you’re a beginner taking your first steps into its teachings or an intermediate learner seeking to deepen your understanding, this course provides a nurturing environment for growth. For those seeking an even deeper exploration, supplementary resources are available, allowing for a more profound dive into the Qur’an’s wisdom.
Unveiling the Light of the Qur’an: Stepping into the realm of Qur’an 30/30, participants are not merely undertaking a course but embarking on a voyage of discovery. This guided expedition through the profound wisdom of the Qur’an serves as a gateway to the illumination it offers. Through this course, the radiant light of the Qur’an becomes accessible and comprehensible, nourishing the minds and hearts of participants.
Exploration of Key Themes
Beyond delving into the linguistic and textual aspects, the course delves into significant themes embedded within the Qur'an. These encompass spiritual journeying, the narratives of prophets, historical contexts, and thought-provoking questions. Participants are also offered dedicated lessons on these themes, providing an introductory exploration into their meanings.
Some of these topics include, but are not limited to:
Building a Relationship with the Qur’an: How can we increase our reflections on the Qur’an and better our relationship with it? How can we do tadabbur? Is it possible for a flawed human to understand the Qur’an on their own?
The organization of the Qur’an: Why is it in the format it is in today? Do the order of the verses and chapters have any significance? Does this matter? Why do the topics jump around so much? Is it in a chronological order?
Tawhid ‘Afali in the Qur’an: Why does Allah attribute evil and misguidance to himself? Does this go against free-will? How do we understand the way Allah speaks in the Qur’an?
Polarity: Why are themes of reward and punishment so prominent in various chapters of the Qur’an? Wouldn’t it be more effective if God constantly focused on His Mercy alone?
Stories: Why is there such an emphasis on stories in the Qur’an and why are they so vague in details?
Spiritual Wayfaring: Repentance, the philosophy behind du’a, the characteristics of believers, nature and the environment, and spiritual psychology
The Ahl al-Bayt in the Qur’an: Why doesn’t the Qur’an mention the Ahl al-Bayt by name? Wouldn’t it have been easier if it did? Which verses are speaking about the Ahl al-Bayt?
