This five-hour workshop (with lunch and salah) discusses approaches to ethical dilemmas in postmodernity. The session will start by exploring some of today’s most buzz-worthy ethical conundrums on hijab, abortion, euthanasia, as well as the ethical foundations of common approaches and postmodern trends to these topics. The purpose of the workshop is to explore how we make decisions and assess the moral righteousness of various deeds and trends in society and if we are sometimes inconsistent in our application of ethical principles. It is not an in-depth exploration of moral philosophy, but rather it aims to open up and introduce discussions relevant to these dilemmas in order to appreciate and understand various Islamic perspectives that are often dismissed haphazardly in an increasingly secular world.
