Opening Our Eyes to the Light of the Qur’an
This workshop explores the potential that we have in understanding and building a personal relationship with the Qur’an. As Muslims, we often struggle with building an intimate relationship with the word of Allah, and this workshop will explore some of these barriers and how its stories can serve as a light in our lives.
Key questions explored include:
(1) Who has access to the deepest layers of the knowledge of the Qur’an? Can non-scholars access the deeper meanings of the Qur’an?
(2) What is the true nature of the Qur’an? How is the Qur’an different from other pieces of literature? Does sacred knowledge (i.e. the deeper knowledge of the Qur’an) and how we attain it differ from how we learn secular sciences?
(3) How do we deal with the doubt and controversial, difficult questions that often come up when exploring the Qur’an? What do we do if we can’t answer the questions that we have?
(4) How is the Qur’an relevant to us in the modern and post-modern world? How are its stories still relevant to us? What are some key ways that the Qur’an that can be a light in our lives?
(5) What are some practical tools to help us build a more personal relationship with the Qur’an? What are some resources in English that can help us in our journey?
